Precision Ground Mold Base
Ground and lapped working faces — for a tight fit, a clean parting line and no flash.
Grinding is what separates a base that assembles nicely from one that flashes at the parting line after ten thousand shots. Milling alone leaves a surface that is flat enough to look fine and not flat enough to seal.
Working faces are ground and lapped flat and parallel to 0.02 mm / 100 mm, with ground surfaces finishing to Ra 0.8 µm. Datum faces are square to 0.02 mm / 100 mm so the plates stack the way the drawing intends.
Ground faces are the ones that matter: the parting line, the shut-off faces, the mounting faces and any face that locates a plate against another. On those, grinding is not an upgrade — it is the specification.
If your drawing calls out which faces are functional, mark them. Quoting a base at fitting tolerance throughout costs more than it needs to, and marking the functional faces usually reduces the price without touching the function.
