Two-Color (Double-Shot) Mold Base
Two-color and double-shot molds form two materials in a single cycle — the base has to locate both halves precisely, or the two shots drift apart.
A two-color (double-shot) mold forms two materials in one molding cycle. The two cavities share one machine and one frame, so the registration between the first and second shot is decided by the base — if the locating features drift, the two materials drift with them.
We machine two-color mold bases to your layout: the two cavity positions, the indexing or locating features between them, the cooling for both shots, and the ejector arrangement for the finished part.
Registration is the number that matters here. Tell us which faces locate the second shot and we will call those out as fitting features and hold them to ±0.02 mm, with the guide-pillar bores bored to position in the same setup.
